Micro Finance – Peter Mansfield & Associates Ltd

A Working Party has been set up to look at starting a Micro Finance initiative in the North West and more details will follow soon.

The Working Party have met several times and have agreed a provisional name for the initiative and have also agreed the Criteria by which anybody who wants to apply for funds will be judged. 

The Working Party are putting together their Vision/Mission Statement and are now concentrating on discussing the structure of the organisation, how the funding will work and the actual process that will be followed to assess projects, allocate the funds and then support the projects through their initial development.

Christian Business Mentoring - Designated Associates

Elaine Owen FRSA became a member of the NWCBF four years ago to help her to find other Christian business leaders.  Elaine is a professional business coach and mentor with over 20 years experience but she struggled to find herself a supervising mentor who shared her faith and values.   The Lord showed her a vision of a collective of Christian business leaders helping to support and mentor one another and her accountant Mal Wright of Elpizo told her about NWCBF. 

Whilst researching for her Institute of Leadership & Management Diploma in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring Elaine facilitated a pilot group of Christian Business Leaders from NWCBF across a 6 session programme of group mentoring and undertook some one to one mentoring to look at the differences and similarities of Kingdom centered mentoring versus secular coaching and mentoring.  She looked at how shared values and ethics in business mentoring have a profound impact upon the success of the relationship for both mentor and mentee and the long term sustainable impact to the businesses involved.

Elaine’s organisation Designated Associates specializes in managing, monitoring and measuring the return on investment of mentoring and coaching programmes and training and supervising coach mentors.  Given the complexity and challenging nature of the role of a coach mentor it is important for them to have a place to reflect on their work with another experienced, senior coach mentor. This has the dual purpose of supporting the continuing learning and development for the coach mentor, but also to give added protection for the ‘client’. 

Elaine is working on bringing together a programme of training, supervision and matching for Christians who want to volunteer their time as peer or business or youth mentors. 

Elaine says ‘we need those faithful business leaders from all works of life and experience who can offer a little time to be trained to mentor to encourage and support enterprise and business – A recent poll at the North West Christian business leaders conference proved that the demand already outweighs the existing volunteer mentors.
